SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Members of the SUNY Schenectady community including students, faculty, staff, alumni, and trustees gathered Wednesday with local leaders, and friends of the College for a special event celebrating the College’s new brand. The event included remarks by College as well as local officials, the debut of a new admissions video, giveaways, and more.

A professional brand agency facilitated surveys and focus groups interviewing a cross-section of the College community over a six-month period last year to identify strength and attributes, as well as to articulate what sets SUNY Schenectady apart from other institutions. This was the first time that the College initiated a comprehensive brand study, which resulted in a new naming convention and look.

“As many members of the community have already seen, we are now ‘SUNY Schenectady,’” said Dr. Steady Moono, College President. “It was important for us, as one of the 30 community colleges in the SUNY system, to align ourselves with SUNY and stress this significant connection.”

Ann Fleming Brown, Chair of the College’s Board of Trustees, noted that the new brand will usher in an upcoming milestone for the College. “This new look for the College comes at an important time, as we prepare to celebrate our 50th anniversary next year,” she said. “It is a way for us to properly convey the essence of the College, to share the tremendous impact we have on our students, and to reframe the College in a way that is both meaningful and creative.”

“The Schenectady County Legislature, as a proud sponsor of this College, is pleased to be part of ushering in a new era at SUNY Schenectady with a new look and brand, said Richard Patierne, Chair of the Education & Libraries Committee.  “Congratulations to Dr. Moono, the Trustees, and all Faculty and Staff on this significant celebration”.

The Marketing Office at SUNY Schenectady is led by David Regan White, Director of Marketing and Public Relations, who worked as a liaison between the brand agency and a 21-member College Brand Committee with members providing input and feedback throughout the project. “This was a very comprehensive effort, as the brand agency developed surveys for feedback, and conducted competitive analysis to really set SUNY Schenectady apart,” White said. “This has resulted in entirely new advertising campaigns from new signs and banners on campus to new print and digital ads, billboards and TV commercials that exemplify our brand promise of empowering students to take their next step.”
