GLENVILLE, N.Y.Mohawk Honda, a fourth generation, family-owned Honda dealership, announced on “Giving Tuesday” its commitment to donate $10,000 each to 10 local charities in 2019 in celebration of 100 years in the automobile business and as a business partner in the community.

In addition to the monetary donations, Mohawk Honda’s nearly 200 employees have committed to serving a total of 10,000 hours of community service throughout the year.

Giving Tuesday is celebrated on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to kick off the annual charitable season. Mohawk Honda is extending that season through 2019.

“Community service has been a pillar of our business philosophy since my grandfather started this company in 1919,” said Mohawk Honda President & CEO Jeff Haraden. “We have always been proud to be part of the community, and to partner with so many great organizations over the years. We thought this was a great way for the Mohawk Honda family to say thank you, and to help these great organizations continue to provide their important services and carry out their missions.”

The 10 charities selected to receive $10,000 each are:

  • Vanderheyden Hall, Troy
  • City Mission of Schenectady
  • Special Olympics New York – Capital Region
  • Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region
  • Boys & Girls Clubs of Schenectady
  • Leukemia & Lymphoma Society – Upstate New York/Vermont
  • The Autism Society of the Greater Capital Region
  • American Suicide Prevention Foundation – Capital Region NY Chapter
  • Equinox of Albany
  • Newmeadow School

The 10 nonprofits attended the special Giving Tuesday announcement at the Mohawk Honda dealership on Freemans Bridge Road. Each of these community organizations will receive a check for $10,000 over the course of the 100-Year Anniversary Celebration.

“We are honored by our partnership with Mohawk Honda. Their generosity will help make City Mission a home for the holidays for hundreds of men, women and children in our community,” said Michael Saccocio, executive director and CEO. “Whether it’s housing for the homeless, food for the hungry, toys for children, or warm winter gear for those who are cold, this donation will give many people a better holiday season. It will also help many build better lives for themselves and their families.”

Steve Haraden, vice president of Mohawk Honda, also will be competing in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Upstate New York/Vermont’s 2019 Man and Woman of the Year campaign – a 10-week philanthropic competition that begins in March to support blood cancer research.

“The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is thrilled to have Steve Haraden and the team at Mohawk Honda participate in the 2019 Man & Woman Campaign,” said Susanne Keller, senior campaign manager. “We thank him for stepping up to challenge to raise funds for our mission, which is to find cures for blood cancers and improve the quality of life for people living with blood cancers.”

Mohawk Honda will be hosting events throughout 2019 in celebration of its 100th anniversary, which includes a community and customer appreciation open house in May and an employee appreciation outing in September.
